1990 Formula One World Championship.

Derek Warwick, Martin Donnelly, Johnny Herbert.

Two great marques, one exciting racing car.

The type 102 is an exciting combination of two great marques, Lotus and Lamborghini.  Interestingly it is the only Lotus ever to run a V12 engine.

1990 Lotus type 102Designed under the technical direction of Frank Dernie the 102 represents about 150,000 hours of R&D, wind tunnel, continuous engineering and design time from concept to racing car.

All composite manufacture was undertaken in-house at Ketteringham Hall. (The Team even made a super light carbon fibre helmet for Warwick and knuckle protectors for Donnelly.)

The engine is a 3.5 litre 80 degree 48 valve V12 which gave the team a competitive 650 plus horsepower, from a strong and practical unit.  The gearbox is a 6 speed (+ reverse) transverse unit designed by Team Lotus and incorporating Lamborghini internals.

The 102 was raced in the 1990 F1 World Championship by Derek Warwick and Martin Donnelly.  They achieved some good points finishes in a competitive season for Team Lotus, thereby preserving the team’s vital top 10 status.

Martin Donnelly suffered a big accident at Jerez.  Johnny Herbert deputised for Martin for the remainder of the season, making his Grand Prix debut at the Japanese GP.

Since 1990 the car has been kept by the team, preserved within the Works Collection by Classic Team Lotus.

The car is being sold with the engine fresh and dyno tested, and is fitted with a modern management system which enables full data logging and settings adjustments.

This Formula One Lotus is for sale in perfect, running condition and is complete with the unbeatable provenance of coming direct from the team i.e. one careful owner and no nasty surprises!

1965 Lotus type 30 Chassis number S2 09 (of 10)

For sale ex Works for £135,000

1965 Lotus type 30The Lotus type 30 is a backbone chassis, V8 engined car designed to race in the very popular 1960’s category for prototype sports racing cars.  The chassis is common to the Lotus Europa. (But the engine is very different!)

Jim Clark raced the Works car to a number of victories, including the prestigious Lavant Cup at Goodwood in 1965.  Relative to its stable mates, the type 30 did not provide a significant advantage over the opposition, but the Works car realised four wins and three podiums out of 10 races.

1965 Lotus type 3030 S2 09 is a developed series 2 version and was purchased ex Team Lotus in 1965 by the JCB Group.   Jim Clark drove it at Silverstone in March 1965.  Regular JCB team drivers Peter Sadler and Trevor Taylor between them raced it in all major sports car races in 1965.  Sadler then bought the car from JCB and raced it in the 1966 TT at Oulton Park.

30 S2 09 has raced at the Goodwood Revival meeting on numerous occasions, with a best finish 5th place in 2007, along with 3rd fastest race lap.  Since then the car has been fully restored and improved by Classic Team Lotus.  It is now fitted with 15 inch rims (as the Works cars ran with originally) so that it can run with tyres correct to period.

1965 Lotus type 30The engine is a new 4.7 litre Ford V8.  The gearbox is a zero miles ZF 5DS25.  All components have been condition tested as required and the fuel cells are new.  An important advantage of 30 S2 09 over other type 30s is that the bodywork is fully removeable in front and rear sections; this is a great benefit for maintenance and operation.

The type 30 is eligible for the popular Sports Racing Masters category for Pre 1966 sports prototype racing cars and 30 S2 09 is ready to be raced.
